Nature's Hidden Garden Helpers: Biochar and Mycorrhizae
Come learn about the uses and benefits of Biochar and Mycorrhizae in your rose garden!
What is Mycorrhizae? Nature’s Hidden Garden Helpers
Think of mycorrhizae as a vast underground network of “root extensions.” These fine fungal threads stretch much farther than a plant’s own roots can reach, pulling in nutrients and water from the soil and delivering them right to the root tips. In return, the plant thanks the fungus by feeding it sugars made through photosynthesis. It’s a perfect partnership—plants and fungi working hand in hand (or rather, root to thread).
Biochar: The Soil’s Secret Super Sponge
Biochar is a form of carbon created by burning organic matter in low oxygen. Picture it as a long-lasting, unbreakable sponge buried in your soil. Its porous structure locks in water and nutrients, keeping them available for your roses instead of letting them wash away. Over time, it becomes even more powerful when “recharged” with fertilizers, beneficial microbes, and moisture. Once in the soil, biochar can last for centuries, quietly improving plant health season after season.
We will also be raffling roses, plants, pots, bouquets, rose books and other fun stuff. Raffle tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5. Enter a chance to win an OGR rose and more fun stuff.
For the master rosarian, rose curious or those who just have a few roses and are avid gardeners, you don’t want to miss this program! Presented by Tom Schaefer
